Wessex Internet Major Rural Broadband Investment

Evolution Infrastructure is proud to have supported Wessex Internet, a leading rural broadband provider in the South West of England, on successfully securing a GBP 50 million funding initiative from the National Wealth Fund (NWF).

Wessex Internet specialises in delivering full-fibre connectivity to hard-to-reach rural homes and businesses across Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire. The funding from the NWF, alongside existing support from Building Digital UK (BDUK), will enable the business to expand its network to over 137,000 premises – a major step forward in bridging the digital divide in the UK’s countryside.

Founded in 2010 with a mission to connect a single village, Wessex Internet has grown into a pioneering provider known for its community-led approach and technical innovation. The company works closely with local landowners and farmers, deploying sustainable build techniques that minimise disruption and reduce reliance on roadworks. 

Aberdeen, through its Economic Infrastructure team, is a key equity investor in Wessex Internet. Their backing underlines a strong belief in the company’s strategy and the commercial viability of rural broadband infrastructure.
