Greenlink Acquisition

We are pleased to have acted as model auditor to Equitix on the acquisition of the Greenlink Interconnector, a 504 MW electricity interconnector between Great Britain and Ireland.

Greenlink is a highly strategic infrastructure asset, regulated by Ofgem in the UK and the CRU in Ireland. It delivers a significant expansion in interconnection capacity between both markets, enhancing security of supply, promoting energy efficiency, and supporting economic competitiveness whilst enabling further integration of energy markets and progress towards decarbonisation goals.

The subsea cable runs between EirGrid’s Great Island substation in County Wexford, Ireland, and National Grid’s Pembroke substation in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Utilising high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, the interconnector enables efficient long-distance power transmission, with a nominal capacity equivalent to powering around 380,000 homes.

Greenlink represents the first project-financed interconnector to be completed in Europe, marking a milestone in the development of regulated interconnection infrastructure. As a proven investor in the sector, Equitix brings over 12 years of experience in offshore transmission, with the acquisition further strengthening its portfolio of critical energy infrastructure.
